How to unlock AT&T Dell Streak and use it on T-Mobile

Posted by Jenn K. Lee Categories: AT&TTipsTutorials

Streak-unlock-tmo (1)

Good news, T-Mobile customers. The AT&T Dell Streak can now be unlocked in a matter of seconds with the Rebel Sim II. I had tried many, many times to unlock the Streak with this card in the past, but what made it work this time is the firmware.

Version 1.2 of the firmware was released two weeks ago, and I can confirm that it is able to unlock the AT&T-locked Streak for use with T-Mobile (voice and EDGE). The Rebel Sim II does not void your warranty because it doesn’t modify any software orpermanently unlock the device; once you remove the card, the Streak is back to its AT&T-only state. Put it back in with your T-Mobile SIM, and it’s unlocked for T-Mobile again. Take it out and your Streak is locked to AT&T.

Want to use your official AT&T Streak with T-Mobile (and other carriers)? Here’s how to do it.

1. Buy the Rebel Sim II or You can buy it with the SIM cutter too if you want,

Streak-unlock-tmo (5)

2. Punch a hole at the top of your T-Mobile SIM card. It doesn’t affect the card’s usability (you’re just punching through useless plastic) and the hole doesn’t have to be precise.

Streak-unlock-tmo (6)

All you need to do is make sure the black square on the Rebel Sim II is exposed when the cards are stacked. That little chip is the source of the magic.

Here’s a more technical explanation:

“The Rebel Simcard has an IC on the FPCB and this intercepts some of the communication between the network simcard and phone and enables the use of other network simcard’s in a otherwise locked phone.”

Streak-unlock-tmo (7)

3. Slide the stacked cards into the Streak’s standard SIM slot. They won’t stay together very well on their own, so you can use a small piece of tape on the edge if you can’t get them in correctly. There’s very little room for imperfection when inserting the cards (i.e., they really need to be lined up correctly for this to work), so be patient and keep trying.

Streak-unlock-tmo (4)

4. Once the two cards are inserted, put the Streak’s battery back in, replace the back cover, and turn it on. If the cards are in correctly, you’ll see T-Mobile in the status bar as soon as the Streak boots up and prepares the SD card. If you don’t see it, take the cards out and try again.

And that’s it.

Streak-unlock-tmo (3)

I’ve got Android 2.1 on my official AT&T Streak, and it works with no problems on T-Mobile.

Streak-unlock-tmo (2)

After I removed the Rebel Sim II and T-Mobile SIM card, I put my AT&T card back in and it was like nothing had happened.

Streak-unlock-tmo (8)

I’m back on AT&T and fully locked to the carrier until the next time my Rebel Sim II wants to take a ride in the Dell Streak.

If you already have a Rebel Sim II card with the old firmware, you can download the new firmware and load it onto the card with a compact programmer.

Rebel Sim II V1.2 New Firmware now Released for Android Windows Mobile & Palm WebOs Smart Phones

together As you know the Rebel simcard Team are always working very hard to make the impossible possible. After Many long sleepless nights and over 200 man hours of Development and testing has gone in to this new firmware for the v1.2 Rebel sim II. This new firmware V1.2 for Rebel Sim II is created for phones that have the following OS systems.

Windows Mobile Android  Web OS

As you know the number of smart phones that appear in the marketplace with these OS’s is growing every day. Most of the Smart phones cannot be unlocked by normal cable/software based methods. A hand full can be unlocked by purchasing unlock codes or credits to server based unlock solutions but often costing in the region of £25 per phone. Normally all phones sold by network operators are locked on to the one network the phone is sold on to. In the UK Dell streak is sold only by O2 In the USA Dell Streak is sold only by AT&T Dell Has signed Exclusivity deals with the operators for the countries it supplies in. The Current scenario is like this You can buy a dell streak direct fro USA an it will still come locked on to AT&T You can buy a dell streak direct fro UK an it will still come locked on to 02. So you can say their is No Sim Free Version of the Dell Streak Available and not even direct from Dell as they are bound by contracts they have made for exclusivity. As Far as being able to obtain a unlock code to enter in the phone to unlock will be a near impossibility as the phones codes are held by the network operators who locked then. Not Even Dell can supply a unlock code for the locked phones as they would themselves need to contact the network operator who locked the phone in the first place eg AT&T in USA or O2 in the UK. However all is not Lost and their is only one company in the World who can provide a Stable Solution to allow use of restricted network simcard on the Dell Streak. Solutions Point Limited based in the UK creates a Product Called the Rebel simcard II is the only unlock solution for the Dell Streak for Now. Its a small chip on a wafer thin pcb that sits under your network card in your phone and does the Magic and allows use any other network simcard and best of all without the use of cables or software or codes and all this without loss of warranty. Dell Streak Unlock To any network with Rebel simcard II Video demo You can download the new firmware FREE  here or on the downloads page here if you already have a Rebel simcard II and  a programming adapter. Take advantage of being able to unlock the Latest Smart Phones when no other methods exist. Video of How To Upgrade or Reset Rebel Simcard II Back to Default Mode and insert in to the compact or pro rebel programmers  to load a new firmware on the Rebel simcard I or IITo order a programmer please see this section here

Detailed below are the GPRS settings for various worldwide networks. You should note that we cannot guarantee the correctness or validity of the GPRS settings published below and therefore cannot guarantee that the GPRS settings below will work with your Nokia phone. It is also worth noting that many network require GPRS services to be activated on a phone account before GPRS services can be accessed via a mobile phone, therefore you should check with your network service provider to make sure that you have GPRS activated on your phone account before attempting to change GPRS settings on your  phone.
